How incredible to be a person born in the 1940's, a southern woman, a private person; sharing artwork that comes from a personal soul place with the world. Throwing all cares of "what will they think?" to the wind (so to speak.)

A collector of others' art most of my life, eight years ago, I started making my own assemblages. I've always collected things that were made of many components - popsicle sticks, bottle caps, etc., made with a whimsical bent. Being a southern woman, born in an earlier time, it was difficult for me to voice my opinion about things that mattered. These assemblages have given me a voice; sometimes with humor and sometimes with melancholy.

My purse collection started 17 years ago. As I haunted flea markets, I'd find discarded purses that I could not resist. My mother incited this shopping quest; as a fashion horse, she always had all the latest styles. I tagged along with my mother on her shopping expeditions and learned the importance of good looking accessories. As I developed into my adult years and delved into dream and symbol studies, a woman's purse took on more meaning than just a fashion accessory. It was an object that showed the progression of a woman's life, collectively and individually.

Many of my purses and the contents that would be found in a woman's purse from each decade in the 21st century until today is traveling the history museum circuit in the United States. Also in the exhibition are photographs of women throughout history holding their purses. anita@anitadavisart.com www.anitadavisart.com

Nancy Newcomb

Nancy Newcomb Art Work

Growing up in Fordyce, Nancy Roark Newcomb has been an artist all her life. Art has always been a passion, however spending over 30 years working with two National nonprofit organizations, having one daughter and being married, art has been on and off for many years.

While studying art at Henderson State University she had the opportunity to interact with other artist and work with many different medians. She has also studied at the Arkansas Art Center, and paints with local artist while on vacations in other countries.

Several years ago Nancy decided she was going to make sure painting and other creative ideas would be part of her everyday life.

Nancy's acrylic paintings, spirit dolls and sometimes outsider artwork all have a sence of humor that can force the viewer to laugh out loud. Each piece has a story, most often growing in the mind of the artist while she lives each day dealing with people from all walks of life.

For Nancy, art feeds her soul and as she say's hopefully will bring a smile to others. Nancydir@aol.com
