Summary of Changes
TEA 2010-2011 has been revised to clarify how earned income affects eligibility for diversion.
An intent of diversion is to help families who are in jeopardy of losing employment due to a financial problem, retain employment and not come on the TEA program. Therefore, the income from the job which is in jeopardy should not be counted when determining eligibility for diversion.
The specific changes are as follows.
The last paragraph in the policy box explains how earned income affects eligibility for diversion.
Examples 1 and 2 under the policy box, clarify how income and resources affect eligibility for diversion.
A statement was added to the paragraph following Example #2, clarifying that if the expense exceeds the maximum diversion payment and other resources are not available to assist with the expense, diversion is not appropriate.
A statement was added to step 1, clarifying that a diversion payment is made payable to the applicant.
