Subj: Citizenship Verification Requirement Exemption-SSA Disability Recipients

The Tax Relief & Health Care Act of 2006, P.L. 109-432 which was signed into law December 20, 2006 has expanded the group of individuals who are exempt from the Medicaid citizenship verification requirement.  Individuals who are receiving SSA disability benefits regardless of whether they are receiving Medicare benefits are now exempt from this requirement. 

The eligibility worker will document in ANSWER that citizenship was not verified because the individual is a SSA disability recipient.
