Subj: Assisted Living Facilities Waiver

A new category of Medicaid has been developed to provide coverage for Assisted Living services in a residential setting to aged, blind and disabled individuals aged 21 years and over. Medicaid coverage for individuals in Assisted Living Facilities (ALF) was established by the approval of a Title XIX Waiver for Home and Community-Based Services sunder Section 1915 (c) of the Social Security Act.

Assisted Living Facilities Waiver Medicaid becomes effective January 1, 2003. A limited number of slots have been requested for the Waiver for the first three years of the program. Currently, The Gardens at Osage Terrace in Bentonville is the only facility that has become licensed.

The Assisted Living Facilities Waiver program is designed to allow individuals to maintain independence and dignity while receiving a high level of care and support. Eligible individuals must be classified as requiring an Intermediate Level of Care if in an institution. Non-medical eligibility is based on the income and resource limits of Long Term Care Medicaid.
