CHILD MALTREATMENT ASSESSMENT SERVICES
The Division of Children and Family Services maintains, via an interagency agreement with the Arkansas State Police an around-the-clock statewide intake process for accepting reports of alleged child maltreatment.  During state fiscal year 2000, a total of 16,759 maltreatment reports were received with 16,699 of those reports assessed.  There were 10,536 reports in which the investigation was determined as unsubstantiated, 523 that could not be completed because the family could not be located, one report in which the investigation was exempted for religious reasons and 60 reports in which the results of the investigation had not been  completed.  Of the completed child maltreatment assessments, 33.77% (5,639) revealed preponderance of evidence of child maltreatment.
