Board of Apportionment Conducts Public Hearing

LITTLE ROCK
- The Arkansas Board of Apportionment will conduct a public hearing September 19, 2001, from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., at the William H. Bowen School of Law, Friday Court Room, at UALR, 1201 McMath Ave., in Little Rock -. All citizens are invited to participate in the event.

The purpose of the hearing is to listen to comments from the citizens of Arkansas regarding the proposed redistricting plans to establish electoral districts for the Arkansas State Senate and Arkansas House of Representatives. The lines were drawn using data received from the 2000 US Census. 

The Board of Apportionment is comprised of Governor Mike Huckabee, Secretary of State Sharon Priest and Attorney General Mark Pryor. 

Copies of the initial staff recommendations have been provided to the county clerk of each county to be displayed at the county courthouse for review. Copies of maps may also be viewed on the Board's website www.state.ar.us/arkdistrict and at the State Capitol. The final plan adopted by the Board of Apportionment will become effective with the election cycle of 2002.
