Jurisdictions in the Process of Joining the ASPPB Agreement of Reciprocity These jurisdictions have voted to join the ASPPB Agreement of Reciprocity and are in the process of making legislative or administrative changes necessary for implementation.
What is the Agreement of Reciprocity? ASPPB supports other efforts to facilitate mobility for licensed psychologists. The ASPPB Agreement of Reciprocity encourages states and provinces to enter into a cooperative agreement whereby any individual holding a license in one member jurisdiction may obtain a license to practice in another member jurisdiction. Under the reciprocity approach to mobility, all licensed psychologists in member jurisdictions are eligible for licensure in all other member jurisdictions based on evidence of comparable standards in current licensure requirements. Entrance into the Agreement of Reciprocity is dependent on a state or province demonstrating that their requirements for licensure meet the standards required by other participating jurisdictions. How Do I Qualify? 1. You must be licensed/registered at the doctoral level in one of the jurisdictions that is part of the agreement. The jurisdiction in which you are seeking licensure must also be part of the agreement. 2. You must have been practicing continuously for five years in an ASPPB member jurisdiction. 3. You must not have any current charges or outstanding complaints pending against you. 4. You must not have been the subject of any disciplinary action or felony conviction in any state, territory, province or other jurisdiction. (Every jurisdiction will verify this with the ASPPB disciplinary data bank.) 5. You must not have been previously denied licensure/certification by the state or province to which you are applying. How Do I Apply? 1. Contact the board where you wish to become licensed and request an application for licensure by reciprocity (the ASPPB Agreement of Reciprocity). 2. Complete the application. 3. Sign the waiver of confidentiality. 4. Ask three professional colleagues to send letters of reference to the state or province to which you are applying. What May The New Jurisdiction Require Of Me? 1. Payment of its required fees. 2. The board may require you to pass its jurisprudence exam. 3. The board may require a meeting with you to review and verify your current fitness and plans to practice consistent with your education and training. What Won't I Have To Do? 1. You will not have to take or retake the EPPP. 2. You will not be required to take any oral or written examination to determine competence to practice. 3. You will not have to forward your transcripts. 4. You will not have to verify your internship. 5. You will not have to verify your postdoctoral supervised experience. 6. You will not have to try to locate your previous supervisors or their files, which may no longer be available. |
